Salem: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 294km-long GAIL pipeline, between Krishnagiri and Coimbatore, in Trichy on Tuesday.
Executive director S Mowar, when addressing the media in Salem on Monday, said GAIL is overseeing the implementation of the 294 km natural gas pipeline from Krishnagiri to Coimbatore, which constitutes a key segment of the KKBMPL (Kochi-Koottanad-Bengaluru-Mangaluru pipeline) project. The pipeline will be laid through Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore districts.
The project, which is estimated to cost 2,187 crore, aims to provide eco-friendly and affordable fuel to industries, households, and the transport sectors in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. “The project is targeted for completion by November 2024,” he said, adding that the pipeline route is predominantly aligned with both national and state highways.
Once completed, the Krishnagiri-Coimbatore pipeline will enable nine districts in Tamil Nadu to access clean natural gas. It is also anticipated to reduce around 2.7 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.
