Surat: Undeterred by the law of the land, a 22-year-old Nashik resident carried out yet another theft, that too within hours after being released from police station in Valsad town!
This time, he targetted a cafeteria around two and half kilometres away from the police station. His run, however, wasn’t long enough and was rearrested by the police.
During investigation of a theft at a restaurant in Abrama area, the police arrested Janardan Gavit, a labourer, on Monday night from Mogra area.He was seen on the CCTV footage and based on specific information about his movement, the police traced him.
On being brought to Valsad town, he surprised the cops at the police station on duty by returning again with them a day later. He was earlier arrested on Saturday night during a drive against drunk persons and put in lockup.
“He was found in a drunk condition on December 30 night and was arrested. He was released on bail on December 31 evening after completing formalities and within a few hours he carried out the theft at the cafe,” said a police officer.
Few hours later, at around 3am on January 1, Gavit was caught a second time on the CCTV of another restaurant in Abrama, where he is seen breaking open the shutter and stealing Rs 3,500 in cash. He did not steal any other valuables except the cash.
Sachin Thakor, owner of the cafeteria came to know about the theft on Monday morning when he was alerted over phone by a neighbouring shop owner. Thakor went to the cafe and examining the CCTV he noticed the thief. He lodged a complaint with the police about the theft.
During investigation, Gavit was caught and produced in the court on Tuesday. The court remanded him to police custody for a day. Police recovered the stolen cash Rs 3,500. As his police custody ended on Wednesday, he was produced in court and it sent him to judicial custody.
