Rajkot: Jamnagar’s 62-year-old Government District Library, a treasure trove of more than 70,000 books, has got a complete facelift with the renovated building set to be inaugurated on March 6.
The library that opened on March 14, 1962, has been converted into a smart library for Rs 1 crore.
Located in the heart of the city near Lakhota Lake, the library even houses some rare books in Gujarati, Hindi and English languages.
The details of all the books have been computerized, making it easy to find them using an online public access catalogue (OPAC) system.
A separate section has been created for students and those preparing for competitive exams. There are 8,000 books dedicated to competitive exam preparation.
A separate reference department with 2,000 reference books has also been created for those pursuing PhD or research.
