Brace for a Harsh Summer: Met Office Patna | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The mercury is gradually going up at most places across the state, with maximum temperatures crossing over 30 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the day-time temperature will continue to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next three days.
Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, said that the maximum temperature will start to increase in the next 24 hours.“Temperature is likely to cross 32-34 degrees Celsius across the state in the next three days. Minimum temperature will likely be in the range of 14-18 degrees Celsius,” he told TOI.
From March to May 2024, the weather forecasting agency predicted that above-normal maximum temperatures are most likely over most parts of the country, except over some isolated areas of northwest, northeast, central and peninsular India, where ‘normal’ to ‘below-normal’ maximum temperatures are expected.
It also stated that during the summer season, above-normal minimum temperatures are most likely over most parts of the country.
Additionally, the seasonal forecast predicted the probability of more heatwaves over most parts of the country except over northeast India, the western Himalayan region, the southwest peninsula and the west coast from March to May. The number of heatwaves was likely to be ‘normal’ in March over eastern parts of India, including Bihar, but the IMD has predicted ‘above-normal’ heatwave days in the peak summer months in April and May.
Singh said the silver lining was that the heatwave is not likely to prevail over Bihar in March. “In the monthly forecast for this month, the minimum temperature will be on the higher side, while the day temperature will be normal or below normal over the state. For this summer season (from March to May), we are expecting heat wave conditions for April and May,” he said.
