AIZAWL: Mizoram health minister Lalrinpuii appealed to the people of the state to strictly adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour in view of the resurgence of JN.1 sub variant of Covid-19 in almost 40 countries including India.
In a message through the media, Lalrinpuii said though there is no reason for panic in the state, utmost care should be taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 variant declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a ‘variant of interest’.
The northeastern state was severely affected in previous waves of the pandemic.
“It was felt, during the recent meeting with the Union health minister held through video conference that there is a need for mass education for the safety of the people in view of the Covid-19 resurgence,” she said.
She reiterated that Covid appropriate behaviour should be strictly observed in mass gatherings during Christmas and New Year celebrations by wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and frequent washing of hands.
Utmost care should be taken, especially during the festivities when people in large numbers congregate, she said.
She wished the people of the state to joyfully celebrate Christmas and the coming year of 2024.
Recently, the Centre had advised all the states to enforce more stringent public health measures to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus, as a surge in infections has been reported in certain states, especially Kerala.
