PUNE: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar‘s nephew Yugendra Pawar has decided to side with veteran politician Sharad Pawar. Yugendra, the son of Ajit Pawar’s elder brother Shrinivas, visited the newly opened NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) office in Baramati on Wednesday.
He has not been involved in active politics so far. However, amidst the split in NCP, his visit to the Sharad Pawar camp has indirectly affirmed Ajit Pawar’s claim that his family was being isolated in the Pawar clan.
Don’t think Ajit Pawar’s family is being isolated: Yugendra
However, Yugendra did not support his uncle’s claim. He said, “I feel that family and politics should not be mixed. I personally do not think that his (Ajit Pawar) family is being isolated. As a Pawar clan member, we are all together.”
Despite his claims, the split in their home turf of Baramati is visible where both the sons of Ajit Pawar, Parth and Jay, are looking to campaign for their mother Sunetra who is expected to contest against Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha poll.
Their cousin Rohit Pawar, who is the MLA from Karjat Jamkhed, has put his weight behind Supriya, and Yugendra will join the Sharad Pawar faction for the campaign. When asked if he will campaign against his uncle, Yugendra said, “I will not campaign against anybody. I will campaign for the candidate Pawar Saheb will name for Baramati.”
Sule welcomed Yugendra’s entry into her campaign. Speaking to media persons, she said, “Yugendra is a smart and cultured youngster. He is an efficient industrialist with deep knowledge of various subjects. If he campaigns for me, I will be very happy.”
