Art teacher competes in new series of The Great Pottery Throw Down

The new series aired on Sunday night (January 7) and features Steven Broughton, 33, a ceramic artist and art and design teacher at Abingdon and Witney College.

Newly married he grew up in Oxfordshire and studied Fine Art at Kingston University in London.

He first tried pottery on a Greek holiday six years ago and his favourite person to pot with is his three-year-old daughter.

He was one of 12 talented home potters tackling the first challenge which was to make a roast dinner set, including a gravy boat, side plate, condiment pot and salt and pepper shakers.

Each set had to have elements in common to show that they are a set.

Steven’s set was inspired by his Nan’s home, where he spend many Sundays as a child enjoying her roast dinners.

The technical challenge was to produce as many identical sideplates as possible in 20 minutes.

Donna’s incredible red and white set clinched the title Potter of the Week while Andrew was the first to be sent home.

The show is presented by Derry Girls actor Siobhan McSweeney and judged by Rich Miller and Keith Brymer Jones who is often moved to tears by the potters’ creations.

The Great Pottery Throw Down is on Channel 4 every Sunday at 7.45pm, with each episode also released each week on All4.
