Kanpur: The second day of UP and Mumbai semi final tie of the Under-23 cricket tournament for the Col CK Nayudu trophy had to be abandoned due to rain and wet and soggy ground at the Green Park stadium on Monday.
The umpires made final inspection at 3:15 pm. and observed that the ground was not fit for the play and declared the game abandoned.
The two umpires made their first inspection at around 10 am and the second one after an hour. The umpires and the referee had asked the curator and the groundsmen to open the centre square though the sky was partly cloudy and the ground wet due to rain.
Now only two days have been left for the four-day semi-final, and only a miracle could complete the first inning of the two teams. As per the conditions and circumstances, Mumbai will make an attempt to achieve the target of two innings. And contrary to that, UP would like to finish the remaining two days with an incomplete first innings.
UP is likely to choose the second option as it would favour it as having higher points in the league phase, and that merit will push the host into the final.
UP coach Mohd Amir is hopeful for the final scheduled to be held at Green Park. Talking to TOI, he said that his boys are a bit frustrated as the second day’s game was also washed out, but their morale is high and they are eager to maintain their fine performance.
