SHIVAMOGGA/HASSAN: Chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar reaffirmed the Congress govt’s commitment to continue the five guarantee schemes, dismissing opposition leaders‘ suggestions that these initiatives would cease after Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a gathering of scheme beneficiaries in Shivamogga, Shivakumar likened the schemes to the five fingers that strengthen the hand, symbolizing the Congress party’s unwavering commitment. He asserted that not only would these schemes continue for the remaining four years of the current term but also throughout the subsequent five-year tenure when the party regains power.
Responding to BJP MLA Araga Jnanendra’s skepticism, labelling the schemes as “420 guarantee schemes,” Shivakumar dismissed the criticism, pointing to the BJP’s lack of similar initiatives during their tenure. He expressed confidence in the Congress’ ability to remain in power, projecting at least nine more years and accused opposition parties of politicizing emotive issues.
Highlighting the impact of the guarantee schemes, Shivakumar noted that approximately one and a half crore families have benefited from the Gruha Jyoti scheme, with over one crore individuals enrolled in other guarantees. He announced plans to establish a Karnataka Public School for every three gram panchayats, emphasizing the government’s commitment to education.
In Hassan, chief minister Siddaramaiah brushed aside allegations by Uttara Kannada MP Ananthkumar Hegde, questioning the state government’s financial stability and payment of government employees’ salaries. Siddaramaiah challenged Hegde’s claims, asking if any employee had reported non-payment of salaries.
Drawing inspiration from former US President Abraham Lincoln, Siddaramaiah emphasized the people’s sovereignty over both Parliament and the judiciary, warning against any attempts to undermine the Constitution.
Regarding BJP’s defamation complaint of corruption allegations against Congress leaders, Siddaramaiah said the legal counsel would handle the matter.
