Salem: Sharing joy of festivities with locals and departmental staff, collectors in Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Erode districts celebrated Pongal on Saturday.
Namakkal collector S Uma was the chief guest at an event themed — Samathuva (equality). She cooked sweet Pongal along with other staff members.
Later, she attended various cultural events, including a dance programme conducted by employees’ children.
Dharmapuri collector K Santhi also took part in Pongal celebrations with employees, sanitary workers, and tribal villagers at Vathal Malai — a hamlet in the district, and participated in various activities.
Meanwhile, Erode collector Raja Gopal Sunkara celebrated Samathuva Pongal at Poomalai Vaniga Valagam, a commercial complex. A sale was held to exhibit and sell products made by women from several self-help groups.
