Cong Ticket Aspirants Fight For Godda Pie | Ranchi News – Times of India

Dumka: Though Congress is yet to announce its candidate for Godda seat which will go to polls on June 1, political slugfest has started with ticket aspirants making all efforts to make their cases heard. Former Congress MP Salahuddin Ansari, who represented the seat between 1984 and 1989, and is hopeful of a ticket this time, claimed that rumours are being spread about him sending a letter to the party’s Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir urging the latter to not field any candidate from the minority community.
“Several media reports have claimed that I suggested that the party mustn’t field a candidate from the minority community in the seat. This is not true as I am a ticket aspirant myself who comes from the minority community. The rumours are being spread in my name to tarnish my image. It is a conspiracy,” Ansari claimed in a letter.
Talking to TOI, Ansari hinted that the rumours against him were being spread by Deepika Pandey Singh, who is the incumbent MLA from Mahagama and a Lok Sabha ticket aspirant herself. “There is resentment among the minority sections against Singh who did nothing to address their issues and concerns,” Ansari claimed in his letter. State Congress spokesperson Shyamal Singh said that both Ansari and Pandey are senior party leaders and enjoy respectful positions in the party. “This is for sure that Pandey ji won’t ever indulge in such type of act,” Singh said.
Pandey however couldn’t be contacted for her version over the matter. Besides Ansari and Singh, Poreiyahat MLA Pradeep Yadav and former Godda MP Furkan Ansari are also lobbying for a Congress ticket to contest from Godda. The party, which named candidates to three seats earlier this week, is yet to name its candidate in Godda.
