Gurgaon: Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) is planning to develop a ‘Gurgaon Haat’ on 2.4 acres in Sector 37C near Dwarka Expressway. The project — to be designed on the lines of Delhi Haat — will come up near Esplanade Mall and have direct connectivity with the Expressway and NH-8, officials said. It is likely to be a major draw for residents of the new sectors.
HSVP officials said they have prepared a detailed plan for the project and sent it to headquarters for approval.
There are several residential societies in the vicinity of the proposed site. The city lacks any such ‘haat’, and other than malls and restaurants, there are limited places for residents to visit and shop.
“Gurgaon is a global city and people from across the country and abroad live here. The Gurgaon Haat, which will be developed on the lines of Dilli Haat, will showcase the rich cultural diversity of the country,” HSVP estate officer Vikas Dhanda said, adding that the proposal has been sent to headquarters for approval.
The proposed ‘Haat’, just like Dilli Haat, will have the ambience of a traditional rural haat or village market, but one suited for more contemporary needs. “There will be a synthesis of crafts, food and cultural activities. In the middle of the haat, there will be a seating area and fountain for visitors,” said the officer.
The market will also have a food and craft bazaar which will showcase Indian culture, handicrafts and ethnic cuisines. “It will display the richness of our culture through food and craft,” Dhanda added.
Dilli Haat, spread over six acres, was inaugurated in March 1994 by Delhi tourism department and is home to thousands of handicrafts and handloom artisans. Thousands of people visit Dilli Haat daily.
