Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP said that steps will be taken to set up a plant nursery within the district prison, for cultivating and selling saplings.
During Samskrutika Saurabha, a cultural programme organised by the Kannada and culture department and District Legal Services Authority as part of activities to reform inmates on Wednesday, the DC appreciated the inmates for their commendable work in growing diverse varieties of saplings, including vegetable and fruit plants.
He also praised the dedication of the jail staff, and assured the initiation of a nursery for sale of saplings. The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will be instructed to provide a suitable location. In the pursuit of reformation measures, the administration will explore the possibility of organising skill training sessions, he said. District Legal Services member secretary and senior civil judge Shobha BG appreciated the efforts put into arranging the cultural evening.
