RANCHI: Sleuths from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrived at the home of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren to record the latter’s statement in an alleged land scam case on Saturday.
Soren, who had skipped seven summons issued to him earlier in the case since August last year, agreed to record his statement at his home.
Soren, 47, had earlier faced nine hours of ED’s questioning in an illegal mining case in November, 2022.
ED officials travelled from its regional office in Harmu in two SUVs which were escorted by an entourage of CRPF officers a little after 1 pm. The Ranchi administration had thrown a tight security ring around Soren’s residence and barricaded off the entry and exit points leading to the CM’ residence.
Hundreds of JMM workers from Ranchi and different parts of Jharkhand converged around Soren’s home in the morning and resorted to sloganeering.
As the day progressed, MLAs of the incumbent coalition of JMM, Congress and the RJD poured into the CM house along with members of Soren’s cabinet.
“There is nothing to say at present,” JMM’s Giridih MLA Sudivya Kumar told reporters outside Soren’s home.
JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey said: “Our workers are coming from different parts of the state to show solidarity to their leader. We have urged them to exercise restraint.”
