Gatineau police arrest nab, seize drugs in early morning raid

For the second time in a week, Gatineau police have arrested a man allegedly selling drugs out of a trailer near a homeless encampment near the Robert-Guertin arena.

Police said that information gathered since a raid last Friday led them to suspect that drugs were still being sold at the site, and the dealers could have weapons.

Officers raided the site at about 5 a.m. and arrested a man without incident.

Police said they recovered three replica firearms, a machete, an electric shock weapon, a canister of pepper spray and a retractable baton in the trailer.

Also seized were 11 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 11 grams of cocaine, 6.3 grams of magic mushrooms, 22 ketamine tablets, 105 LSD blotters, 7.8 grams of crack, more than 600 contraband cigarettes and items stolen from a Gatineau business.

Police emphasized that neither the trailer raided Wednesday, nor the trailer raided last week, were connected to the homeless people who have been camped at the Guertin for some time.

Police also noted that “Information from the field also indicates that users seem to be feeling some concern about the quality of certain narcotics currently circulating on the black market.”

Police urged users to take use “the various supervised consumption and drug verification services that are made available to them by community organizations.”
