Mysuru: District health officials have directed all govt and private hospitals to report gastroenteritis cases immediately. District health officer Dr PC Kumaraswamy said after two women were diagnosed with cholera, rapid response teams were formed and testing was carried out in their areas, but the health staff didn’t come across any similar case.
The DHO said nearly 500 individuals in about 150 houses in Gandhi Nagar and Bademakan areas were screened after two women were hospitalised. All those tested were screened for abdominal and intestine-related health issues in the last few weeks and there was no single complaint. There are no complaints from rural areas he added.

GE cases: Hosps asked to inform DHO

As the cause for gastroenteritis-related issues is connected with drinking water, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities too have been asked to take necessary steps in this regard, the DHO said.
Krishnarajendra Hospital medical superintendent Dr HP Shobha said gastroenteritis is common during summer but an increase in number of patients recently forced them to do further tests on two women who showed symptoms of cholera. But they got discharged from hospital after successful treatment.
Usually in a week, the hospital receives about three complaints of diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever but the number went up to eight the previous week. “There has been no rise in the number since then,” she said.
The medical superintendent, however, advised the public to be cautious during summer and take precautions by keeping themselves hydrated and consuming only fresh food.
