GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Marathon 2024 was inaugurated on Sunday by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of runners of all ages and skill levels, creating a sense of determination and excitement throughout the city. Approximately 40,000 individuals are taking part in the marathon, aiming to conquer distances ranging from 5km to a full 42.2km.
The marathon was organized in four stages, with the first phase being the full marathon of 42.2km starting at 4:30 am.This was followed by the half marathon of 21.1km at 6:30 am, the 10km race at 7:30 am, and finally, a 5km fun run. During the event, Shikhar Dhawan stressed the importance of dedicating an hour each day to physical and mental health. Chief Minister Khattar, in his speech, highlighted the significance of such gatherings in promoting physical fitness and fostering a sense of community.
Khattar expressed his aspiration for Gurugram to become a leading hub for athletics and marathons, drawing inspiration from well-established events in other major cities. He also mentioned that a segment of the marathon was dedicated to the cause of zero hunger. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan is preparing for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In the previous edition, he scored 373 runs in 11 innings and was retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) as their captain for the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai.
