Berhampur: A boy, who went missing from his village near Baliguda in Kandhamal district, about one-and-half years ago, was rescued from Mainpur in Chhattisgarh’s Gariabandh district on Sunday. The boy, now 16 years old, was re-united with his widow mother on Monday.”
The boy was found in the house of a businessman in Chhattisgarh,” said SP (Kandhamal) Subhendu Patra.The boy went missing from his home on June 6, 2022. His family lodged an FIR on June 13, 2022, when they failed to find him.
“During the investigation, police were informed by their Gariabandh counterparts that a minor boy from Baliguda was in the house of a businessman. A team went to Chhattisgarh and brought the boy back,” said Sushant Sahu, inspector in-charge, Baliguda police station.
The Chhattisgarh businessman gave shelter to the boy when he found him moving around aimlessly at night near his village one day. The man had also planned to enrol him in a school this to continue his studies, police said.
The boy was studying in Class VIII in a local school when he went missing. The businessman did not oppose when the police team took him back home, police said. His father died a few years ago and his uncle visited them frequently. Though it is not known yet how he went missing, police suspect that the boy might have fled from the village out of fear when he lost Rs 600, which was given by his uncle to purchase groceries, in gambling.
He first went to Boudh and some other places in the district on foot before going to Chhattisgarh, police said.
