Mysuru: Supporters of Kodagu-Mysore MP Pratap Simmha, on Wednesday, staged protests in Mysuru and Madikeri, demanding that the BJP high command field him again from the constituency. Shouting slogans and holding placards which read ‘We stand with Simmha’ and ‘Ticket denied for challenging Congress’, they demanded an explanation from party brass on why the MP was not considered for the ticket.
The party chose to field scion of the erstwhile Mysore royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar from the seat.Earlier, Simmha told reporters he will continue to serve the party even if he wasn’t given the ticket. “I wanted to retire from politics at the end of 2029,” the MP said. “I wanted to retire after grooming a young leader in my place.” He said he will not contest as an independent. He later congratulated Yaduveer on landing the ticket. tnn
