THANE: Four persons who impersonated employees of a movers-and-packers company have been booked for allegedly not delivering a car which was picked up from Thane for delivery in Odisha.
The complainant, a chartered accountant, alleged that he wanted to send his car to Cuttack and had found a cellphone contact number of the company that dealt with transportation of goods inter-state.
The accused, impersonating as an employee of the company, fixed a deal for Rs 13,000 and on November 11, a person from the company took the car. To convince the complainant, they clicked photos and sent them to the car owner on Whatsapp, the complaint says.
Later, they sent an invoice in which a total bill for transportation of the car was mentioned as Rs 37,964. The car owner enquired with the employee who said that additional charges were levied and refused to deliver the car and switched off the phone. The car owner paid Rs 37,964 on a QR code sent by the accused but the transporter’s contact number was still switched off. He then found out that the persons he had dealt with were not employees of the company.
