Lucknow: To provide counseling and support to cancer patients and their caregivers, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute on Friday started a psycho-oncology OPD.
The OPD will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm. Patients can make an appointment by calling the institute on 0512-2353500.
“Cancer is a serious illness that can have a profound impact on both the patient and their family,” said Dr RK Dhiman, director of the institute.
“The psycho-oncology OPD will provide much-needed support to help patients and caregivers cope with the emotional and psychological challenges,” he added.
The OPD will be staffed by Dr Devashish Shukla, a psychiatrist and medical superintendent of the institute. Shukla will provide individual and group counseling, as well as educational resources to help patients and caregivers.

An investigation is underway in China after a woman claimed that her mother was deceived into paying $27,000 for fake cancer treatments. The woman and her mother visited a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who claimed to have developed a medicine for eliminating cancer cells. The practitioner administered oral medication, injections, and even instructed the mother to apply cement to her skin. It was later revealed that the practitioner had no medical qualifications and the certificates he provided were purchased online. Medical fraud cases are unfortunately common in China.
