JAIPUR: A newborn girl was allegedly stolen by two women from the government-run district hospital at Neem Ka Thana hours after her birth on Monday morning. CCTV footage showed two women taking away the newborn, which was yet to be traced till the evening. The family threatened to stage a protest if the infant was not found.
The newborn’s father, Hanuman Gurjar, 22, a resident of Harjanpura Bachdi village, said the incident took place around 7am, when he had briefly left the hospital to have tea, and his wife, Mamta Devi, 20, went to the toilet.

“The newborn’s grandmother, Mishri Devi, was with the child. Two women came and took the newborn away along with the medical report, saying they would conduct a check-up. I inquired with the staff when the two women did not return with the infant for over an hour and raised an alarm,” said Hanuman.
A police team reached the hospital upon learning about the incident and, after gathering information from the staff and reviewing CCTV footage, identified the two women.
One wore a jacket, and the other had a red shawl on, both visible from the back. The woman wearing the shawl was seen hiding the newborn inside the shawl.
“Four teams have been formed to investigate the matter. We are scrutinising CCTV footage from the main roads, including those around the hospital. Interrogations of hospital guards and employees are on,” said a senior police official.
The parents issued an ultimatum to police and hospital authorities that they would stage a demonstration on Tuesday if the newborn was not found safe.
