Varanasi: The Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University organised a comprehensive orientation programme for BSc first-year students at Swatantrata Bhawan on Thursday. The event featured various activities and informative sessions.
The programme commenced with a floral tribute to the BHU founder Mahamana Pt Madan Mohan Malviya, followed by the recitation of Kulgeet.The director of the Institute of Science Prof Anil Kumar Tripathi informed the new students about the university and its glorious history. The dean of the faculty of Science Prof Sukh Mahendra Singh delivered an address highlighting the amenities and facilities available at BHU for the students. Also, Namaste BHU App was officially released on the occasion. The programme included informative sessions by distinguished speakers covering various themes related to student life and amenities at BHU. The sessions included Prof KK Singh’s general address on student amenities, Prof RN Kharwar’s insights on BSc Admission-2023, and Prof HP Sharma’s comprehensive session on attendance, examination, timetable, and class-related matters. Following protests by thousands of students at IIT-BHU in Varanasi, the administration has agreed to begin work on constructing a boundary wall around the institute for controlled access. The protests were sparked by the sexual assault of a female student on campus. Steps to enhance security have also been taken, including restricting movement during certain hours and increasing surveillance. However, some groups have protested against the construction of the boundary wall, viewing it as a partition of the BHU campus. A joint committee will be formed to survey the campus and submit a report for approval and funding.
