Mysuru: Appealing to SC, ST, and backward class voters to support Congress because of its guarantee schemes, PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi on Saturday said that the protection of life is more important than those who exercise power sitting in Delhi in the name of protection of religion.
Addressing a meeting of ST leaders of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, the senior ST community politician said our protection (of life) is more significant than the work of religion.“We have to live. We should realise that if we live, the country will survive,” he said.
“STs should support Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. The community has supported Congress since Independence. For Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, grants have been earmarked according to the population, while Rs 7,500 crore has been given to STs. Land is being offered at a 50% discount in KIADB industrial areas,” he said, adding that these community members are becoming industrialists.
“The Constitution protects us. It should be noted that community members should be identified in the region and given representation in politics. MLAs are drawing the attention of the government in this regard,” he stated.
Another meeting after poll: MLA Chikkamadu
MLA Anil Chikkamadu said that another meeting will be called after the elections to solve the problems of the community.
“Siddaramaiah is from Mysuru district and the community members should support Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha election. Siddaramaiah has inducted three ST legislators in his cabinet and has appointed STs to corporations and boards,” he said.
