Thiruvananthapuram: Riyas Ebrahim and Anagha S Shanu exchanged their garlands and became the first couple to be wed at Shanghumugham weddingdestination spot on Thursday. They had planned to have their wedding in an open space rather than doing it in a closed hall ambience. To their surprise the tourism department opened a wedding destination spot at the beach side.When they came across an announcement on a radio station about the booking of thedestination wedding at Shangumugham, they soon contacted district tourism promotion council (DTPC) and ensured the first booking.
The whole family of the bride and bride groom were so satisfied with the arrangement of the wedding and happy to see the newlywed couple share their precious moments of life within the natural backdrop. “We are lucky to arrange the wedding here.The whole idea of the wedding was done by the couple,” said Shahidha, bride’s mother.
“We are happy that we becamethe first couple to have a destination wedding here and are thankful to DTPC for making our dream into a reality,” said bride groom.
Director of district tourism development cooperative society, U N Shammer, said the department is planning to expand the concept of such weddings to all the tourist destinations in the state. “The entire project in Shanghumugham including the wedding destination spot, night cafe, fish area, gaming area cost about Rs 2 cr. For destination weddings the property will be given on lease for Rs 75 lakh with GST, and they can customise their wedding,” he said. Couples can register through DTPC or society’s social media platform. “More than 25 enquiries came, and four bookings have already been made. We are ready to incorporate all the event management organisations to make the wedding colourful and are even providing the accommodation facilities,” he added.
