Kanpur: Shivansh Sharma of Kanpur emerged as champion in the under-15-year category in Bijnor Open Federation International Des Echecs (FIDE), the international chess federation rating championship which concluded on December 3. As many as 226 chess players from MP, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh took part in it.
According to Dilip Srivastava, secretary, Kanpur Chess Association, in the open event Shivansh stood at 20th place.In the final round, he snatched points against Aditya Vishwakarma of Uttarakhand in 52 moves. With this win, Shivansh added 75 points to his rating. He will represent Kanpur in under-5 state championship to be held in Hapur and will also participate in All IndiaChess championship to be held in Udaipur from December.
Chess championship: Nurture International School, Bithoor Road will organize an inter-school chess championship on December 12 and 13. According to Ritu Chitranshi, director of the host school, students of all boards can participate in the championship which will be held in three groups—Class 3 to 5, class 6 to 8 and class 9 to 12 in the boys’ and girls’ groups. KDMA league: Kanpur South humbled PAC Club by 10 wickets in the KDMA A division league tie held at the Kanpur South ground on Wednesday. With this win, Kanpur South earned 5 points.
District level umpiring and scoring exam: Kanpur Cricket Association will conduct district level umpiring and scoring examination in the last week of December. According to Kaushal Kumar Singh, KCA secretary KCA will organize a two-day workshop for umpiring and scoring.

Former BJP leader Priya Ranjan Ashu Diwakar, prime accused in a farmer suicide case, appeared before the court of chief metropolitan magistrate in Kanpur. He submitted the Allahabad high court order that has stayed his arrest till December 5. The court clerk stated that the chargesheet against Priya Ranjan Ashu Diwakar has not been filed in the court yet. The high court has extended its interim order till December 5 and the related papers were presented in the Kanpur court on Friday.
