Bhubaneswar: To strengthen their bond with their roots through language, non-resident Odias (NRO) proposed to Odisha govt to launch a short-term certificate course in Odia language.
This proposed course would cater specifically to the children of NROs, allowing them to connect with their linguistic and cultural heritage during their visits to Odisha on holidays.
The NRO community said the course will help in maintaining a strong connection with their Odia identity.
“Language is a crucial aspect of our identity and we want our children to embrace the beauty of Odia language. The proposed short-term course will provide a structured and accessible platform for our children to learn their heritage,” said Sunil Sabat, who represented Odia Society of America.
“We have been promoting and popularizing Odia culture in America for the last 55 years and celebrate all festivals. We have also set up some schools there where we want Odisha govt to give certificates to students who are learning Odia language there,” Sabat added. TNN
