Hyderabad: N Sridhar, the long-serving chairman and managing director (CMD) of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), has been shunted out by the Congress government and in his place SCCL director N Balaram has been made in-charge CMD. The 1997 batch IAS officer was appointed as the CMD in December 2014 after the TRS came to power.
Sridhar was transferred immediately after his term ended on December 31.He has been told to report to the General Administration Department (GAD). The development comes within a week of the CPI-affiliated AITUC emerging as the recognised union of SCCL and Congress-backed INTUC bagging six of the 11 divisions in the recent union elections.
Though many MLAs and MPs had complained against him to then CM K Chandrasekhar Rao that he was inaccessible, KCR stuck with him and gave him nearly half-a-dozen extensions. Almost a year ago Sridhar had applied for the post of CMD of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and the selection panel had even recommended his candidature. But his appointment was kept on hold after BJP’s Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao wrote to the Centre listing out 20 allegations including corruption, favouritism and misuse of power.
