Kalaburagi: As Central Railway (CR) and South Central Railway (SCR) are negotiating jurisdictional changes over four kilometres of Wadi junction station, activists and commoners of Kalyana Karnataka region are demanding whole Kalaburagi, Wadi, Bidar railway line be handed over to SCR.
According to a letter from the engineering branch of CR, Mumbai, to divisional railway manager, Solapur, dated October 13, the issue of taking over Akola station and Akola-Khandwa section of SCR to CR is under consideration between parent railways as per the coordination meeting held between general managers (GM) of both railway on August 23.In another communication issued from GM, SCR, Secunderabad, to GM, CR, Mumbai, it was contemplated to study the issue of handing over Akola-Khandwa section of SCR to CR and taking over Wadi junction from CR by SCR.
Sunil Kulkarni, president, Kalyana Karnataka Grahakara Vedike, observed that SCR is giving up railway line of 203km Akola-Khadwa to CR and in return, it’s ready to take over only 4kms of Wadi junction yard from CR.
“Currently, Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur districts and some part of Kalaburagi district railway line is with SCR. Having multiple zones in one district is hampering train movement. If entire Wadi Jn to Kalaburagi Jn/Bablad, towards Solapur, and Kalaburagi Jn to Tajsultanpur, towards Bidar Line, is merged from CR to SCR, many operational issues can be eliminated and it will ensure most districts of Kalyana Karnataka region come under one zone,” he opined.
Dr Shivaraj Manaspure, CPRO, CR, Mumbai, said Railway Board will take a call on demand of merging Kalaburagi to SCR. Kalaburagi MP Umesh Jadhav said he had requested railway minister to shift Wadi and Kalaburagi line from CR to SCR, in August itself. “Yesterday, we met Vikas Jain, EDPG, MR, in Delhi and submitted a fresh proposal to shift the entire Kalaburagi region to SCR along with the proposed Wadi section,” he informed.
