TRICHY: A 52-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in a village near Manapparai in Trichy.
The mahila court in Trichy awarded the punishment to A Pethan of Puthanatham after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting the eight-year-old girl on July 23, 2020.
The girl was a Class II student. As her parents left for work, she had gone to her classmate’s house to play.Her classmate left the victim in the house and went to a shop nearby. Pethan, who was at the house, raped the girl.
The girl revealed this to her parents the next day. They lodged a complaint with the AWPS, Manapparai. A case was registered against Pethan under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and arrested him.
Following the conviction, the court also imposed a fine of 10,000 on the convict.
