Rajkot: Rajkot is blissfully ignorant of the fact that work of railway double track of the line between Rajkot and Ahmedabad is completed. Even after announcing the extension of six trains to Rajkot, the railway ministry did not take any action regarding it.
In a meeting of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) held on Friday, the issue was raised by various stakeholders including Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
Members including the vice president of RCCI, Parth Ganatra, represented railway officials in a meeting that it in September it was announced extending six trains to Rajkot. Three months have already elapsed but no progress has been seen in this direction.
These trains include Ahmedabad-Patna, Ahmedabad Prayagraj, Ahmedabad Kolkata, Ahmedabad-Kolhapur, Ahmedabad-Nagpur and Gujarat Samparak Kranti express. This announcement came after a double railway track between Rajkot and Ahmedabad was made functional.
The other issue raised concerns amenities on platform number 4 and 5. Earlier, when it was single track, these platforms were rarely used. But now with double track lines started functioning, these are frequently used. It was represented that there is no facility of coach indicator, lift, escalator, shed and catering stalls on these platforms which make it difficult for passengers to catch trains from these platforms.
The lack of a coach indicator in particular creates a chaotic situation on the platform at the time of train arrival and may also lead to accidents.
The other representations made in the meeting were to extend Hapa-Mumbai Duronto to Jamnagar and Jamnagar-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat train to Udhna in Surat.
