KALYAN: A man was arrested for hurling a stone at an AC local near Dombivli and damaging a window pane that injured a woman onboard.
Accused Sharad Gangurde, 38, was drunk and had pelted stones at two earlier local trains, but nobody was injured, said the Dombivli RPF. Gangurde is from Jalgaon district and works in Mumbai.
The incident took place at around 9.20am between Thakurliand Dombivli stations on Thursday.”A woman passenger sitting near the shattered window suffered minor injuries,” said the senior inspector of the Dombivli RPF.
Anup Mhetre, travelling on an earlier train hit by another of Gangurde’s stones, informed the GRP personnel about the miscreant. Assistant inspector Ranjan Shinde with his team immediately left for the incident site.
They spotted Gangurde near the tracks, and chased him as he began running away. He was caught and interrogated. Gangurde said he was working as a waiter at a Dadar hotel after coming to the city to escape family problems.
Drunk, he was walking towards CSMT along the tracks between Dombivli and Thakurli on Thursday around 9am. After a local train blew its horn, he picked up stones and began hurling them at trains. Around 9.20, he hit the AC local’s window and was caught soon after. He has been arrested under sections of the Railway Act.
