PUNE: The Pawar family, including NCP leader Sharad Pawar, his daughter Supriya Sule, nephew Ajit Pawar, his wife Sunetra and other members met for lunch at Pawar’s younger brother Prataprao’s residence in Pune on Friday.
It has been a tradition in the Pawar family to come together to celebrate Diwali, but Ajit Pawar was recently diagnosed with dengue and there was no clarity if he would be joining the celebrations this year.
When asked, Sharad Pawar said, “We are happy that the health of our family member is improving fast.”
Pawar’s sister Saroj Patil said, “Like every year, we had a joint family get-together. We were extremely happy to spend time with all the family members. We did not discuss any politics at all.”
After the get-together, Ajit Pawar immediately left for Delhi to meet Union home minister Amit Shah.
NCP Sharad Pawar faction’s working president Supriya Sule said that she was not aware of her cousin’s Delhi tour.
Sule said, “The differences are only political. There are no personal differences with anybody. We had a good time together as a family. Ajit Dada is still recovering and he needs post-dengue care.”
NCP leader Praful Patel on Friday evening shared photos of him, Ajit Pawar and state president of their faction Sunil Tatkare with Shah on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“Had a meaningful meeting with Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji in Delhi, extending warm Diwali wishes. Grateful for the opportunity to pay a courtesy call and share festive joy,” Patel wrote on his handle.
After he split the party, Ajit had met his aunt and Sharad Pawar’s wife Pratibha at their residence in Mumbai in July when she was recuperatign after a surgery.
The family has professed strong ties despite their political differences .
