Vadodara: The Dahod police have filed a chargesheet in the fake govt office racket that was unearthed last year. A detailed charge-sheet of 3,434 pages including documentary evidence and statements of the witnesses has been filed in the local court. The police said that their investigation will continue in the racket wherein two accused are yet to be nabbed.
The fraud was detected by the cops during the probe of a similar racket in Chhota Udepur in Oct last year.A project administrator in Chhota Udepur noticed anomalies in the proposals that were being sent by an executive engineer of the irrigation department and they were cleared by the project administrator (sub-plan), Chhota Udepur.
The administrator conducted an inquiry of the project proposals worth Rs 3.74 crore and it was then that he learnt that a gang had created the fake office of executive engineer, irrigation department to siphon the government money. The Chhota Udepur police formed a special investigation team (SIT) and began arresting the accused. During their interrogation, it came to light that they were running a similar racket in Dahod too.
The 13 accused, who have been arrested till date by the Dahod police, include seven govt employees including a former IAS officer. Investigations conducted by the Dahod police have revealed that the accused floated six fake offices in the district and got 100 project proposals worth over Rs 18.59 crore cleared within a few years. The siphoned amount has now touched the figure of nearly Rs 25 crore from 121 project proposals.
The accused had deposited the siphoned money in different bank accounts. The police had investigated over 130 bank accounts in the case and frozen 70 of them after following the money trail. The Chhota Udepur police too filed a 3,431-page charge-sheet in the bogus govt offices racket last month that includes statements of 587 witnesses. The accused siphoned over Rs 21 crore from the govt coffers in Chhota Udepur.

Rohidas had 180 blocked numbers in his phone, likely representing people demanding their money back. The accused has been arrested and an FIR has been registered for cheating.
